Félix Vallotton

Félix Vallotton

“Un volcan sous la glace”

From the 2nd of October 2013 till the 20th of January 2014, the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais in Paris is dedicating an exhibition to the artist Félix Vallotton.

A Swiss artist born in Lausanne in 1865, Félix Vallotton became a French citizen in 1900. After frequenting the studios of the postimpressionists and the Nabis, the artist began to assert himself as a member of the Parisian avant-garde. He is renowned for his woodcuts and illustrations in black and white.

In nudes, landscapes, still-life paintings and mythological themes his style is always personal and detached, his colors refined and his layouts audacious. Apparently introvert, he revealed himself as a passionate man, always open to change, till his death in 1925.

The audio tour offered by Le Grand Palais is in French, English and Italian and my voice can be heard in part of the Italian version.
